The history of Filipinos settling in Alberta is tied, as in current times, to labour demands in Western Canada. The reasons why people immigrated from the Philippines have remained the same throughout the decades: some are striving for a "better life" with financial security; others are seeking adventure and "wanting to see the world"; some hope to join family who are already here in Canada; and some want to earn an income, temporary or permanent, to help support their families back home.
