Edmonton has a lively festival culture that sees the city embracing outdoor living and celebrations year-round, capitalizing on the varied climate. Among its more popular cultural successes are the Edmonton International Fringe Festival, the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, and numerous mainstay arts organizations around town.

Edmonton’s success in sports dates back to the 1920s, when the Edmonton Grads women’s basketball team dominated the world stage. Since then, Edmonton’s identity has been closely connected with professional sports teams such as the Edmonton Oilers and Edmonton Eskimos.
